The first expansion Rise and Fall brings with it the division of the game into individual periods. From antiquity to the future. In each era, you earn points for creating key milestones for your civilization. From clearing a barbarian village threatening your city to destroying another civilization. Another option to not spend another part of the game in the dark is to build some wonder of the world. But if you do well, you will start a golden era. The bonus you choose at the beginning of the period is much stronger than the normal one. Then it pays to attack other cities whose owners are not so lucky. But it is necessary to be careful about the loyalty system. Many of the cities I conquered thus declared their independence, and I usually had to win them back. The game was a bit more realistic. But I liked the pressure function from other cities the most. If you build a city close to another civilization, it will lose loyalty and go peacefully to another. And sometimes even governors who can suppress thoughts of freedom won't help you. There are eight of them in the game and each one specializes in a different aspect. From religion to science. Unfortunately, even after a few games on medium difficulty, I didn't find that they had any significant effect other than by preventing the declaration of independence, if you're lucky. Overall, I can recommend this addon just because of the eras. They give the game dynamism and you have to think more about the game. And the frustration of others declaring a state of emergency because you attacked another player and took their territory won't change my feeling, earning you tons of grievance points from your enemy.
